Department of Posts has introduced ‘Project Arrow’ to transform the existing India Post infrastructure across the country. The project aims at revitalising the organisation, capitalising on its strengths and recognising and dealing with the weak areas of the department by sustained, sincere and honest team effort.
Patiala head post office became one of the 25 post offices being brought under the ‘Project Arrow Phase III’ of India Post in Punjab.
The technology-driven new-look post offices, with multi-purpose counters, were inaugurated by Col. Prithvi Raj Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, Punjab Circle, Chandigarh on 10.9.2009.
Project Arrow aims to increase customer footfall by revitalizing the postal department. Launched this month, 25 post offices in the state have to receive a facelift. They will be inaugurated before the end of this month.
Besides being upgraded and modernised with computerised multipurpose counters which has given the post office a swanky look, efforts have been made to improve customer service by training staff in customer relationship management and introduction of new services for faster and better service.
Col. Kumar said, the project, aimed at improving the quality of service by being IT-enabled and also by providing better infrastructure with customer-driven focus. The multi-purpose counters are meant to manage customer demands faster and better.
The slew of new services being introduced included faster dispatch/delivery of mail, providing UPSC and application forms, e-tickets, sale of gold coins, insurance and financial services to effectively face competition and to respond to market forces quickly and efficiently so that the department repositions itself to become self-sufficient.
The post offices at Samana is also covered by the Project Arrow and inaugurated on 10-07-2009.
